I am a Michigan licensed psychologist practicing in Ann Arbor,
Michigan. This web page briefly describes my work. I offer
psychotherapy, supervision, and consultation services. Please
feel free to call me at the above number with questions or if you are
interested in arranging an appointment.
I am a licensed psychologistwith over 25 years of experience in
working with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I received
my doctoral clinical training at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign and the University of California at Los Angeles
Medical Center. I work primarily from a cognitive
interpersonal/systems perspective (including cognitive-behavioral
therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and family systems therapy). I have
trained clinical psychologists for many years and have taught at Smith
College, Antioch University, and the University of Michigan. I have a
longstanding interest in making the psychotherapeutic process more
scientific. The model I designed (with George Stricker) for training
scientifically-minded clinical practitioners--the local clinical scientist training model--is used at training sites
nationwide.
Most problems in living originate in problematic interpersonal
relationships. I work to improve important relationships in my
clients' lives to relieve distress and promote health and
well-being. In so doing, I address problems associated with
depression and mood disorder(including major depression and bipolar
illness), anxiety, parent-child relationships, couples' relationships,
stress, self-esteem, and personality. I also address problems in
work-life relationships, including handling difficult
coworkers/employees, managing role stress, and working through
unsatisfying career situations. Always, I work to help clients to
understand better how culture, gender, social, and spiritual issues
affect their experience and their achievement of life goals.
In large part sessions are devoted to examining how complicated, often distressing interpersonal
interactions are experienced and remembered, and how the underlying
realities of these experiences may
suggest ways of managing difficulties that were not immediately
apparent. My approach is active, practical, and
connected to clients' understanding of their lives. Each
person's life experience is unique; my job is to provide a safe, open
environment where clients can freely examine their experience and
come to realistic plans for improving their lives. In
addition
to symptom relief, I measure success by improved relationships,
communications, self-acceptance, self-advancement, and ability to
manage life situations.
In addition to psychotherapy services, I am available for clinical
supervision of qualified individuals who are interested in improving
their interviewing and intervention skills, and as a consultant to
businesses and organizations interested in improving the interpersonal
climate and productivity of their settings. Top of page Office location: 342 S. Ashley, Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
